Paul Hessburg

Paul Hessburg is a Research Landscape Ecologist with the USDA Forest Service, Pacific Northwest Research Station, and Professor (Affiliate) at the University of Washington School of Environment and Forest Science and Oregon State University (OSU) College of Forestry. His research team explores wildfire and climate change effects on forest and nonforest pattern dynamics, wildfire resilience mechanisms and their persistence under climate change, and wildfire reburn influences on forest fuel succession and fire behavior. He holds a PhD from OSU and a BS from the University of Minnesota, and has authored more than 210 refereed articles, books, and book chapters over the past four decades. In 2017, he received the USDA Forest Service’s Chief’s Distinguished Scientist award.
