Mid-Rise Wood Construction: Navigating Codes and Detailing Assemblieson 10 May May by Cththemes

Brian Kuhn, Code Red Consultants

Podium buildings—also known as pedestal or platform buildings—typically include multiple stories of wood framing over another construction style. To leverage wood’s cost efficiency, these types of projects often maximize allowable building size limits with four or five stories of wood framing over one to three stories of steel or concrete. This presentation will focus on how to achieve maximum value with podium construction, while also covering a variety of wood-frame mid-rise building types. Heights and areas will be discussed, including allowable increases, as will fire-resistive design, detailing for performance, fire-rated assemblies, and more.
