David Impson,Britt, Peters and Associates

The Chandler Center for Environmental Studies, a 20,000 square foot facility hosting classrooms, laboratory space and offices on the campus of Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC, is an example of mass timber’s potential of sustainability and beauty. Set to open in Fall of 2020, this project features southern yellow pine glulam beams and columns and cross-laminated timber floor and roof panels and will be Green Globes certified. In this presentation, the structural engineer for the project will share the structural strategies utilized on topics including grid layout, connections, code compliance, detailing at timber to masonry shaft wall interfaces and more.
